Sterling Silver Steak Knives Set of 6 — Sheffield England, Cased
Set of six steak knives with sterling silver handles cast in a flowing Art Nouveau pattern of daisy blossoms, scrolling foliage, and reeded panels. Each ferrule is plainly stamped STERLING — the export marking convention used on English silver sent to the American market, where the .925 fineness was guaranteed without the full UK hallmark sequence. The silver shells are loaded over a solid core, standard construction for English cutlery and the reason these handles feel substantial in the hand. Tapered serrated-tip stainless steel blades are stamped Blade Made In Stainless Steel, Sheffield, England in the cursive script logo used by Sheffield cutlers from the 1940s through the 1960s.
Lot includes all six knives and the original black hardshell presentation case lined in red velvet with cream satin lid printed Fine Sheffield Cutlery, Sheffield, England.
CONDITION Good. Blades remain bright and sharp with light surface marks from use. Sterling handles show age-appropriate tarnish concentrated at the ferrule joints — We'll Leave the Polishing to You. Case exterior shows light shelf wear; interior velvet and satin are clean.
