Description

Hopperesque Coast Guard Station, Mixed Media on Panel, Framed

A spare, Hopper-influenced coastal scene: a clapboard Coast Guard or lifesaving station perched atop a vast pale sand dune, set against a saturated cobalt sky with a red signal flag at right and a dark band of water across the bottom. Roughly two-thirds of the panel is given to the dune itself, pulling the eye up to the architecture and the broad sky above. The visual debt is to Edward Hopper's Cape Cod and New England coastal work of the late 1920s and 1930s — the flattened light, the lonely architecture, the dune as compositional dominant.

Mixed media on panel: sky, dune, and water are rendered in smooth painted passages, while the building is built up in chalky, drawn strokes consistent with pastel or oil pastel worked over the painted ground — giving the structure a weathered, sketched presence against the broader paint. Housed in a natural-finish wood floater frame with no glazing, panel-mounted and ready to hang. No visible signature on the front, and the kraft-paper backing carries no label or inscription.

CONDITION Good. The painted surface presents cleanly with no flaking, lifting, or visible restoration, and the pigments remain fully saturated. The natural-finish wood floater frame is scuffed with minor surface wear along the edges and corners.
