Warren Platner for Knoll Bronzed Wire Coffee Table with Glass Top, c.1966–70s
Iconic Platner Coffee Table designed by Warren Platner for Knoll, introduced in 1966 and produced through the following decade. The sculptural base is constructed of vertical steel wire rods welded to circular horizontal rings, forming the signature hourglass silhouette that defined the Platner Collection. The bronzed finish — rarer than the standard nickel production and more sought after by collectors — shows an age-appropriate oxidation patina consistent with original factory coating. A round tempered glass top rests atop the base, completing the design recognized by MoMA as a landmark of American modernism. Authenticity is guaranteed by Mesilla Valley Estate Sales; certificate available on request.
This coffee table has accompanied the Warren Platner for Knoll Rosewood Side Table with Black Wire Base (1970s) since new — that companion piece is offered separately in this same auction.
CONDITION
Good overall, with the wire base showing some oxidation to the bronzed finish consistent with age and use. Structural integrity of the base is excellent — no bent, broken, or missing rods observed. Glass top is intact with no chips or cracks visible.
