Italian-Style Banded Onyx Column Pedestal — Brass Band, 36" H
Mid-to-late 20th century banded onyx pedestal in the Italian Neoclassical taste, featuring a tapered cylindrical column rising from a stepped square plinth to a rounded Tuscan-style torus capital and squared display top. The stone shows the characteristic horizontal banding of natural onyx — cream, soft green, and caramel veining running through the column and base in parallel striations, with the translucent zones common to commercial Pakistani and Mexican onyx production of this period.
A polished brass collar wraps the column's lower transition, a hallmark detail of the era's commercial production. Five-piece stacked construction in solid onyx puts the piece at over 100 pounds, anchoring statuary, busts, large vases, or substantial plants without flex. The 12" squared top accommodates both wide and round display bases. Pickup or freight required given weight.
CONDITION Good. One corner chip on the top slab and several chips along the edges and corners of the stepped base, consistent with the weight and handling of solid onyx. Column and capital remain clean with full polish retained across the major display surfaces.
