Moser Club's Physiognomical Toasting Snifters by Gscheidel, Set of 6 in Case
A complete six-piece set of The Moser Club's Physiognomical Toasting Snifters, designed by Adolf F. R. Gscheidel for Moser of Karlovy Vary, Czechoslovakia. Circa 1957. Drawing on the eighteenth-century pseudoscience of physiognomy — the reading of character through facial structure — Gscheidel sculpted six drinker archetypes into hand-blown lead-free crystal: the towering Slim Lady and Long Fellow, the lean Long Face, the rounded Moon Face, the squat Big Bertha, and the portly Stout Gentleman. Each bowl is engineered to channel a specific spirit, so the set functions equally as a tasting flight, a conversation piece, and a piece of mid-century industrial sculpture. Every glass carries the etched oval Moser signature beneath the foot, the maker's standard mark for export crystal of this period.
Housed in the original fitted carry case lined in ivory satin and printed in gilt with the Moser Club coat of arms, the set title in script, the six named glass positions, and the "Copyright Moser Czechoslovakia / Author A. F. R. Gscheidel" credit line at upper right. The black velvet base cradles each stem in its own contoured recess, and twin chrome latches flanking a central ribbed handle secure the lid. Several glasses retain their original retailer foil stickers to the underside of the foot.
CONDITION
Excellent across all six glasses, with no chips, cracks, or clouding to the crystal and original retailer stickers still adhering to several feet. The carry case shows minor storage wear — light surface scuffing and faint scratches to the textured exterior shell, satin lining intact and clean.
