McKee Glasbake Casserole & Art Deco Chrome Cradle with Chase-Style Candlesticks
Art Deco serving group built around a ribbed clear Glasbake casserole with stepped domed lid and concentric ring finial, seated in a chromed steel cradle pierced with a laurel-leaf garland and star border. The cradle rests on four chromed ball feet and is fitted with stepped black Bakelite handles — construction closely associated with Manning-Bowman & Co. of Meriden, Connecticut, whose chrome-and-glass casserole servers were a hallmark of late 1930s American streamline tableware. The Glasbake liner is a product of McKee Glass Company, Jeannette, Pennsylvania, and is embossed "MADE IN U.S.A. GLASBAKE" on the underside.
Lot also includes a pair of chromed ball-form candlesticks on stepped concentric bases, consistent with Chase Brass & Copper Co. and Farber Bros. designs of the same period and sized for ¾" tapers — a complementary Art Deco accent to the casserole set.
CONDITION
Good overall with strong original chrome reflectivity across all three pieces. One candlestick base shows a visible dent, and the cradle exhibits light pitting and surface scratching to the chrome with minor wear at the Bakelite handles. Glass casserole and lid present clean with no chips noted.
