Chase Art Deco Chrome Cake Server & Dome with Red Bakelite Handles c.1935
An Art Deco covered cake server in polished chrome with cherry-red Bakelite handles, consistent with the Chase Brass & Copper Co. "Pantry Boy" or comparable cake server form produced in Waterbury, Connecticut during the 1930s. The scalloped serving plate features a tall stepped central post topped with a horizontal Bakelite T-bar lift handle, paired with a low domed cover crowned by a tapered Bakelite finial seated in a wire bail mount. The petal-cut rim and machined post profile reflect the Rockwell Kent–era Chase design vocabulary that defined American Streamline Moderne tabletop ware.
The chrome surface retains strong reflectivity, and the Bakelite tests as phenolic resin of the period (warm red, no yellowing of the core). A period-correct piece for Deco bar carts, dessert service, or display alongside Manning-Bowman, Farber, and Revere Streamline pieces.
CONDITION
Good with age-appropriate wear and utensil marks throughout. The chrome shows fine surface scratching visible on the dome and plate well, most apparent under raking light. Bakelite handles are intact and tight; no cracks observed.
