Ring-Necked Pheasant Cock Taxidermy Mount on Cork Bark Plaque
A full-body cock Ring-Necked Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) mounted in an alert perched pose against a sculptural slab of Mediterranean cork oak bark, ready to hang. The specimen presents the full breeding plumage of a mature male: an iridescent bottle-green and royal-purple head, scarlet facial wattle, paired ear tufts, the distinct white neck ring that gives the species its name, and a coppery mantle of black-and-cream barred body feathers transitioning into a long, sweeping tail with strong horizontal banding intact to the points.
Introduced to North America from Asia via England in the 1880s, the Ring-Necked is a composite of several colchicus subspecies and remains the most widely hunted upland game bird on the continent — a fixture of Midwestern field-and-stream taxidermy since the early 20th century. The cork bark plaque is a traditional European naturalist's mount style, prized for its lightweight backing and organic silhouette behind the bird.
CONDITION
Very Good condition overall. Plumage is full and well-set, glass eyes clear, beak and scaled feet intact, tail feathers complete with no breaks at the tips. Light dust on the feathers consistent with display age.
