D. Allen Mid-Century Still Life — Palette Knife Oil, Framed
Heavy impasto oil on canvas worked entirely with palette knife — a tall blue and white vase erupting with abstracted yellow, white, red, and green florals, set beside a tilted boat-form dish of oranges with a single fruit anchoring the foreground. Warm light cuts diagonally across a dark olive and umber ground, the composition built up in thick directional strokes characteristic of 1960s–70s decorator and Continental modernist still life painting.
Signed "D. Allen" lower left. Presented in a moulded gold-leafed wood frame.
CONDITION Good. Canvas and paint layer present cleanly with bright pigments and impasto intact, no visible tears or losses. Frame shows isolated gold leaf peeling at the lower right corner exposing cream gesso beneath.
