Gerald Thurston Attr. Floor Lamp w/ Glass Table, MCM
A four-rod brass floor lamp with integrated glass side table, attributed to Gerald Thurston for Laurel Lamp Company, ca. 1950s–1960s. The signature structure — brass rods splaying from a weighted disc base, cinched at two points by turned black-finished wood collars, then converging to a chrome socket — is among the most recognizable silhouettes of American mid-century lighting design. A square clear glass shelf seats at the lower collar junction, converting the lamp into a functional lamp-table combination. The white conical opal glass shade directs light upward in torchiere fashion through a mogul base socket, capable of 3-way output at 100, 200, and 300 watts. Tested and confirmed fully functional.
Attribution is based on documented design precedent and construction consistent with Laurel Lamp Co. production; no maker's mark confirmed in available images.
CONDITION
Good. Fully functional and tested. Scuffing present on the brass rods and disc base, with finish wear to both the wood collar fittings and brass surfaces consistent with age and use. Upper collar shows the most significant finish loss; lower fittings retain more of their original finish.
