Art Deco Walnut Burl 4-Drawer Dresser — Ebonized Top, Ring Pulls, Dovetail
A Continental Art Deco chest of drawers in book-matched walnut burl veneer with ebonized lacquer top, ebonized side panels, and original ring-and-bar pulls in blackened metal. The drawer fronts are the piece's defining statement: four horizontal panels of figured walnut burl arranged in a continuous sunburst match, the grain radiating outward from a central axis across the full width of the case. The ebonized lacquer top provides a hard graphic counterpoint to the warm amber of the burl below, a pairing the Deco period handled with particular authority. Rounded case corners, a stepped plinth base, and bracket feet complete the form. Drawer construction is dovetailed throughout; the case is solids and veneers with flathead screw secondary construction visible at the back panel — period-correct and structurally sound.
This dresser is the source piece for the walnut burl headboard panel in the brushed steel canopy bed offered in the preceding lot. A Minnesota furniture designer acquired both pieces, retained this dresser, and extracted a matching burl panel from the wooden bed originally sold with it — fitting that panel into a new steel frame to unite the two across different eras of design.
CONDITION
Very Good. The burl drawer fronts and pulls present cleanly with no notable damage. The ebonized lacquer top shows visible scuffs and light scratches from normal use, and a previously touched-up area is present at the lower left side panel. No structural issues; drawers operate as expected.
