Bjarne Dahlqvist BD Furniture Finnish Lounge Chair — Tufted Leather, Bentwood Frame
A high-back lounge chair designed by Bjarne Dahlqvist and produced by his firm Oy Bj. Dahlqvist Ab under the BD Furniture label in Jakobstad, Finland, circa 1970s. Dahlqvist, who founded BD in 1967 and holds some 30 patents in furniture ergonomics and mechanism design, built his reputation on chairs engineered for comfort as much as form — and this piece reflects that priority. The sled-base bentwood frame, rendered in natural blonde, sweeps from floor through armrest in a single bent arc. The upholstery is cognac leather throughout: tufted across the seat and tall back panel, smooth at the armrests and rear shell, with a separate bolster headrest across the top. The leather remains supple. The original maker's label is intact on the underside of the seat cushion.
CONDITION
Fair. Comfortable. Leather is supple throughout but carries age wear across all surfaces. Both armrests show surface scratching and finish wear. The canvas backing on the rear panel has worn through at both rear corners with the frame visible at each. Sturdy and usable.
