Brushed Steel Queen Canopy Bed — Walnut Burl Deco Panel Headboard, Baughman Style

A queen-size four-poster canopy bed in 2" square brushed steel, commissioned new by a Minnesota furniture designer and conceived as a deliberate companion to the Art Deco dresser offered in the following lot. Rather than pairing the metal frame with a conventional headboard, the designer sourced the wooden bed originally sold with that Deco dresser, extracted a panel of its book-matched walnut burl, and custom-fitted it between two horizontal steel rails to create a material bridge between the 1930s case piece and the modern frame. The result is an intentionally composed object — not a modified bed, but a designed one — where the warmth and flame figure of Depression-era walnut burl reads against brushed steel the way Milo Baughman intended the combination all along. The open canopy, squared post-to-rail joinery, and overall geometry fall squarely in the Baughman mode; the brushed steel finish is a quieter, more architectural statement than the chrome versions that dominate the market.

CONDITION

Good. Steel rails present cleanly at viewing distance with scratches throughout that are nearly imperceptible. A dent with associated dark mark is present on the lower footboard rail. A ¼" chip to the walnut burl veneer appears at the upper corner of the headboard panel where it seats into the steel channel; the panel face is otherwise intact with strong figure and finish.
