Persian Hamadan Runner, Herat Design — Wool, Iran, Mid-20th C
A hand-knotted Persian runner from the Hamadan weaving region of western Iran, executed in the classic herati (Herat) pattern — an allover field of rosettes and palmettes set within a repeating diamond-and-lancet-leaf lattice on a deep crimson ground. Cobalt, pink, orange, ivory, and dark navy punctuate the composition with the characteristically bold, slightly geometric drawing that distinguishes Hamadan village production. The multi-guard border system frames the field with a cream-ground main border carrying reciprocating floral and geometric devices. Wool pile on cotton foundation; consistent with third-quarter twentieth-century Iranian production.
CONDITION
Good. Pile is full throughout with no detached areas, staining, or structural damage to foundation, selvedges, or fringe. Normal wear for age is present but does not compromise the visual or structural integrity of the piece.
