Navajo Chinle Weaving — Natural Wool, Banded, 1960s
A Navajo hand-woven wool rug in the Chinle banded style, worked entirely in natural undyed wool — dark chocolate brown, heathered gray, tan/caramel, and cream/ivory. The composition moves in horizontal bands across the field: wide gray plains alternating with dark brown bands carrying stepped bracket motifs in cream and tan, with a prominent center band of directional chevrons. No synthetic dyes; the full palette is drawn from the natural color range of the wool itself, consistent with Chinle production of the period. Assessed by Kary Dunham, Navajo Rug Expert, as a nice example of Chinle design, circa 1960s.
Rug holder sold separately.
CONDITION
Good — Wear and fraying to selvedge edges, with corner unraveling visible in supplemental reference images. Some scattered moth damage.
