1960s–70s Navajo Double Diamond Weaving
A Navajo hand-woven wool tapestry rug in a classic double diamond layout — two large serrated diamond forms aligned on the vertical axis, each centered on a stepped cross motif in cream and black, set against a deep olive-sage field. Corner squares anchor the composition at all four quadrants. Concentric borders — amber/burnt-orange, brown, and an outer cream band carrying repeating zigzag elements — frame the design with a confident, organized geometry that reads clearly across a room. Black header borders run full-width at top and bottom with natural warp fringe at each corner. Assessed by Kary Dunham, Navajo Rug Expert, who confirms the piece displays well.
Warp count 15, weft count 10 per inch — moderate density consistent with non-regional production of the period.
Rug Hanger Sold Separately
CONDITION
Fair — Visible moth damage across multiple areas of the field, with scattered holes documented in supplemental reference images. A 1/2" tear is present. Evaluate all condition images prior to bidding. Pattern reads cleanly and colors hold strength at display distance per expert assessment.
