Hemis Niman Kachina Silkscreen — Eukabi Pubrs., Albuquerque NM
A hand-pulled silkscreen depicting the Hemis Kachina — also identified as the Jemez or Niman Kachina, the principal figure of the Niman Kachina Dance. The figure is rendered in bold, flat graphic color against a warm ochre ground: the monumental tablita headdress rises in stacked columns of turquoise, red, and orange with white feather bursts at each tier; the body costumed in a white kilt with geometric sash and ceremonial moccasins, holding a green sprig. A pueblo mesa landscape sketched in periwinkle blue grounds the lower register. A stylized printed monogram appears lower right. Published by Eukabi Publishers, Box 7481, Albuquerque, New Mexico; printed by hand by American Indians per original documentation. Internal catalog reference K-203.
Lot includes the matted silkscreen and an original Eukabi Publishers card titled "The Story of the Kachinas," which identifies the subject and provides historical context on Hopi ceremonial tradition.
CONDITION
Good — print colors remain vivid and the image area is clean. Minor soiling to the matting consistent with age.
