Description

19th C Men's Stockman Tailor's Mannequin — Swivel, Tripod Stand

A 19th century professional men's stockman — the tailor's form type used in European and American couture ateliers throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras. The padded wood-core body is covered in dark olive-brown canvas fitted in the traditional segmented pattern, with turned ebonized wood shoulder cap discs and a natural wood finial at the crown. The form swivels on its mount, released by loosening the crown knob — a practical fitting-room feature that distinguishes professional trade forms from decorative reproductions. The height-adjustable turned ebonized column locks via brass thumbscrew and seats into a three-leg cabriole base. At a 45" waist, this is a generously proportioned form well suited to tailoring, costume and theater work, retail display, or period interior staging.

The lot includes a detached wooden arm component shown separately in photographs. ⚑ Confirm original relationship to form before publishing.

CONDITION

Fair. The canvas covering shows significant wear commensurate with working atelier use, with multiple tears and fabric losses exposing the underlying batting — most pronounced at both shoulder caps, upper chest near the neck collar, mid-back along the center seam, and the lower front panel. The ebonized stand retains its finish with moderate paint loss concentrated at the feet. The swivel and height-adjustment mechanisms appear functional. The detached wooden arm piece shows breaks at two points. Sold as-is.
