Painted Wood Nicho — Mexico Folk Art, Floral Décor, Carved Crest
A Mexican folk art nicho — a devotional display cabinet built to house a santo, retablo, or religious figure — constructed of solid wood with a paneled back, single glass-paned door, hand-carved pierced crest, and a stepped platform base. The exterior carries hand-painted sage and emerald green grounds layered with trailing floral sprays in pink, lavender, and red across all four frame faces and the interior door panel. The crest is a scrolled fretwork cartouche centered with a raised rosette, retaining traces of white and gilt paint. Origin confirmed: MEXICO stenciled on the reverse.
CONDITION
Good. Authentically rustic. The case is sturdy, the glass door operates on its hinges, and the turned knob is present and intact.
