Antique Dovetail Pine Trunk — Wax Finish, Wrought Iron Hardware
A flat-lid storage trunk hand-built from knotty pine with dovetail joinery at every corner and a wax-rubbed finish that has deepened to a warm amber over many decades of use. The forged iron hardware is intact throughout: a heavy vertical hasp strap with locking ring on the front face, a diamond-shaped drop latch and escutcheon, full-width strap hinges across the back, iron corner reinforcement tabs, and a wire bail handle centered on the lid. The lock mortise is present on the front panel; no key accompanies the piece.
The unlined pine interior retains a shallow till beneath the lid — a practical period detail that adds both storage utility and authenticity.
CONDITION Good. Age-appropriate wear throughout — surface scratches, resin-bleed darkening at the knots, and light scuffing on the exterior panels; no structural cracks or splits. Iron hardware shows honest surface oxidation consistent with age; all hardware is present and functional.
