Description

Mahogany Queen Anne Cabinet — Glazed Doors, Claw Feet, 3 Drawers

A mahogany cabinet in the Queen Anne Revival manner, standing on four cabriole legs with carved claw-and-ball feet and finished with a stepped cornice. Two glazed doors — each with an arched molded surround, canted lower corners, and vertical glazing bars — conceal the interior. A brass keyhole escutcheon anchors the center stile. The figured mahogany case and paneled plank back are consistent with late Victorian or Edwardian English cabinetmaking, c. 1890–1910.

Behind the doors, the interior reveals the hallmark of a purpose-built music or folio cabinet: tight vertical dividers for upright storage of sheet music, ledgers, or portfolios, adjustable open shelving above, and three dovetail-jointed drawers along the base floor. The dovetail construction is a marker of hand workmanship and separates this piece from the mass-produced revival furniture of the same era. A turned column divider anchors the center of the interior. The door interiors are fitted with mirrored panels.

CONDITION

Fair — age-appropriate wear throughout, with scuffs, dings, chips, old repairs, and other accumulated character consistent with its years. The right glass panel is hazy. The piece is wobbly and requires restoration before stable display or active use.
