Description

Mexican Colonial Pine Settee — Serpentine Crest, Raised Panels

A substantial Mexican colonial-style settee in solid pine, distinguished by a boldly serpentine crest rail that sweeps up to a center arch and curls at each shoulder — one of the defining gestures of hacienda furniture. The paneled back presents five raised-and-molded fields framed with beaded molding; the scroll armrests ride on turned baluster supports, and the front legs are heavy 3½" × 3½" turned balusters in the same tradition. The plank seat is formed from wide boards laid with visible gaps — honest construction unchanged for centuries. The stripped pine surface reveals a knot-rich grain that reads as both rough-hewn and architecturally considered. A piece built to outlast its owners, and then some.

A loose seat cushion in terracotta-and-cream fleur-de-lis fabric is included in weathered condition, suitable for use as a reupholstery template.

CONDITION

Good. Sturdy and structurally sound throughout, with an authentically rustic character born of outdoor use. The pine surface shows weathering, patina, and surface checking consistent with age and exposure — all integral to the piece's character. The included cushion is in poor condition, weathered, and offered as a reupholstery template only.
