Vintage Navajo Sterling Silver Peyote Bird Barrette — Turquoise
The peyote bird — also called the water bird — Navajo silversmiths adopted, working the form in sterling with the same repoussé and stamp work vocabulary they brought to their finest silverwork. This barrette is a confident example of that tradition.
Stamped STERLING on the reverse.
CONDITION
Good. Silverwork retains strong detail with age-appropriate toning in the recessed stamp work. Light surface scratching on the main plate consistent with age and use. Turquoise is secure in its bezel with no chips or crazing visible. Barrette clip functions properly. Polishing left to the buyer.
