"La Carrera" Cycling Abstract — Watercolor/Gouache, Signed '98
Titled La Carrera ("The Race") at lower left and signed and dated '98 at lower right, this original mixed-media work renders competitive cycling as pure kinetic force — riders dissolved into interlocking arcs of green, red, blue, orange, and black against a luminous lavender-and-gold ground, speed lines slashing diagonally across the picture plane. The visual language draws directly from Italian Futurism's obsession with motion and energy, most notably the style of Giacomo Balla, though the artist remains unidentified. Medium is watercolor and gouache on paper, worked with evident control across a compact 6" × 6" image.
Presented in a triple-matted metal frame with glass on both front and back faces, the geometric stepped mat design amplifies the work's graphic energy.
CONDITION
Good overall — the image is intact and colors remain vivid. The frame shows scuffing at the corners, and debris is visible between the panes of glass. No condition issues noted to the image itself.
