Foxfire 14K Gold Tanzanite & Diamond Ring — Studio Artisan
Some rings are purchased. This one was built — from a family heirloom diamond and a goldsmith's imagination.
The design is architectural: a wide, angular 14K yellow gold mount rises dramatically from a substantial shank, framing a custom fancy-cut tanzanite in an elongated hexagonal form. The stone is a custom-cut elongated hexagon. The stone carries real depth and presence in its setting. Bezel-set within a high-polish geometric frame, textured gold panels flank the mount on the left shoulder, their matte surface playing deliberately against the polished lines.
To the right, an antique old European cut diamond of approximately 1/2 carat sits in its own bezel — not purchased for this ring, but brought to it. The diamond is a hand-faceted old European cut popular across Europe from the late 19th into the early 20th century. Old European cuts were designed to sparkle under candlelight and early electric light, producing broad romantic flashes rather than the sharp scintillation of modern brilliants. White body color, eye-clean, and beautifully preserved. This stone has already lived one life — this ring is its second chapter.
At 12.88 grams, the ring has real presence on the hand. It wears like a decision.
About Foxfire Custom Jewelers
Foxfire was born in 1978 when a young Michael Babinski started making jewelry by hand because he couldn't stop thinking about it. He completed a formal goldsmithing apprenticeship, earned his gemology credentials through the Gemological Institute of America, and opened Foxfire Custom Jewelers as a dedicated studio in 1985 — with one governing idea: make high-quality jewelry on premises, concept to completion, for people who wanted something that couldn't be found in a catalog.
Over more than 35 years, Babinski and his studio produced over 20,000 original pieces for clients across the United States and internationally. Their jewelry has been featured in Newport galleries since 1984.
CONDITION
Good. The tanzanite shows surface scratches — external abrasion to the facets — visible under magnification and in the close-up photos. The antique diamond is bright, undamaged, and eye-clean. No repairs, cracks, or structural issues observed. Polishing of the gold is left to the buyer.
