Tarahumara Terracotta Vessels, Rawhide-Lashed, Sculptural Pair
A compelling pair of Tarahumara (Rarámuri) terracotta vessels, bound in hand-applied rawhide lashing that speaks to both ingenuity and tradition. Their full, rounded forms and warm, earth-rich surfaces reveal the marks of hand-forming and kiln firing, with organic variations that lend each piece its own presence. The rawhide, threaded through the clay and pulled taut, creates a rhythmic, sculptural pattern while serving its original purpose of reinforcement and durability.
Rooted in the traditions of northern Mexico, these vessels embody a balance of function and form—once utilitarian, now striking decorative objects with undeniable cultural character. Their scale and texture make them especially impactful in rustic, wabi-sabi, or collected interiors.
Condition:
Both pieces are in good condition with minor dings and surface wear consistent with age and use. The hide shows no tears or rips, with expected dryness. One jar leans slightly due to its original base construction. No notable structural damage.

Large: 14 1/2 x 15 1/2 inches diameter, Weight: 11 lbs 4 oz
