Medicine Wheel & Feathers Double-Sided Rawhide Frame Drum
A hand-crafted double-sided rawhide frame drum, signed and dated "C93♥" — consistent with a 1993 artist mark. The wood body is covered on both faces with natural rawhide, scalloped at the edges and laced with sinew in the traditional manner. The playing face is painted with a medicine wheel (sacred hoop) and suspended eagle feathers rendered in red, black, and white — imagery drawn from Plains tradition in which the sacred hoop represents the circle of life and the eagle feather signifies the Great Spirit's power. The reverse face is left natural. A braided rawhide loop serves as both grip and hanging handle. The drum is resonant and fully playable.
The lot includes the original mallet — natural branch handle with a leather-wrapped, padded striking head.
CONDITION
Very Good. Both rawhide heads are intact, taut, and resonant — the drum sounds great. The hand-painted decoration remains vivid with no flaking observed, and the sinew lacing is secure throughout.
