Stanley Furniture British Colony Dining Set — Table, 8 Chairs, Pads

A complete dining suite from the British Colony collection by Stanley Furniture Co. of Stanleytown, Virginia — a company founded in 1924 by Thomas Bahnson Stanley, a dairy farmer-turned-industrialist whose factory eventually lent its name to the town itself. The British Colony collection drew directly from the plantation furniture tradition of the colonial tropics: four boldly spiral-gadroon carved table legs with fully turned feet, a molded apron, and warm hardwood finished in Stanley's Caribe — a medium honey tone that photographs richly and wears gracefully over time. The table extends via a single stored leaf, moving from a six-seat configuration to a commanding 92¼" entertaining surface. Stanley applied a 30-step finishing process to each piece, which accounts for the depth and durability of the surface after years of use.

The lot includes the extension table, one leaf, eight chairs (six upholstered side chairs and two open-arm captains chairs), and a full set of custom table pads. Chair frames carry the same turned-leg vocabulary as the table; backs and seats are padded in cream woven fabric over urethane foam, with original compliance tags intact.

CONDITION

Good. The table top shows faint scratches distributed across the surface, visible under raking light; the 30-step finish remains intact and the piece presents strongly at room distance. Chairs are in great condition with solid frames and no joint issues; upholstery shows staining on the seat pads and should be considered for professional cleaning or reupholstery.
