Description

Military Surplus Steel Ammo Cans — Lot of 4 | 5.56, 7.62, .45 Cal

Four US military surplus steel ammunition cans, olive drab finish with original yellow stenciled markings intact — each one a direct artifact of Cold War-era American military logistics. The lot spans three calibers and three conflicts, all tied to Winchester's Western Cartridge Company and Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, the backbone suppliers of US small arms ammunition from World War II through the Cold War. Cans are sold empty; the stenciling is the provenance.

  • 5.56mm M193 Ball — Lot LC-1-202: Lake City AAP, c. 1970. The cartridge that fed the M16A1 in Vietnam, packed in the original 10-round clip and bandoleer infantry configuration. 840-cartridge capacity.
  • .45 Cal M1911 Ball — Lot WCC-1-98: Winchester Western Cartridge Co., c. 1998. The round that served the 1911 pistol through two World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam — this can represents late Cold War stockpile production. 1,000-cartridge capacity in cartons.
  • 7.62mm M80 Ball — Lot WCC 6568 (×2): Winchester Western Cartridge Co., c. 1966–67. The standard NATO round for the M14 rifle and M60 machine gun at the height of the Vietnam War. 420-cartridge capacity on one can; second can partially stenciled, same lot.

CONDITION

Good. All four cans retain structural integrity with functional latches and handles; lids seat and close securely. Surface wear throughout — scratches, scuffs, and minor paint loss consistent with field and storage use — plus marker notation on two lid tops and residual sticker adhesive on two cans.
