Amora Mexico Talavera Wall Planter & Handled Planter — Hand-Painted, 2 Pcs
Two hand-painted Talavera pieces by Amora Mexico, a maker associated with the folk pottery tradition of Dolores Hidalgo, Guanajuato, offered together as a single lot. The larger is a globular wall planter with a salmon-ground body and flared orange-glazed rim, its full circumference densely composed with polychrome floral motifs — cobalt blue and deep burgundy fan-flowers, scrolling yellow vine-work, chartreuse palm fronds, and stylized black foliage wrapping uninterrupted around the body. A rear mounting hole allows it to hang flat against a wall; drainage holes make it functional as an active planter. The companion piece is a wide-mouthed handled planter in a low, shoulder-heavy form with two teal-glazed loop handles. Its floral vocabulary — fern fronds, yellow and blue fan-flowers, scrolling orange acanthus, lavender daisy forms — is equally animated, with the rim and foot banded in teal.
Both pieces are marked "Amora Mex" on the unglazed base and read strongly as decorative objects in Southwestern, hacienda, or folk art interiors.
CONDITION
Good. Color and hand-painted detail are vivid on both pieces, with no cracks or chips. Glaze crazing is present across both bodies — more pronounced on the wall planter's shoulder — consistent with the low-fire earthenware tradition. Signs of prior use visible throughout.
