Rosemarie Carrol Kachina 'Mask Study I' Original Watercolor
An original watercolor on paper by Rosemarie Carroll, artist-instructor and founder of RC Carroll's Art Studio in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Titled "Mask Study I" in the artist's own hand on the verso, the work depicts a stylized Pueblo ceremonial mask rendered in deep terracotta washes — a broad circular form with rectangular black-bordered eye and mouth openings trimmed in blue geometric patterning, a blue chevron headband, and symmetrical rows of white dotwork running crown to chin. Black calligraphic tendrils radiate from either side, punctuated by indigo floral-bead accents, against a loosely washed ground that suggests adobe architecture in the distance.
Carroll's handling of watercolor is confident and expressive — the mask commanding and hieratic against its atmospheric ground. The artist's business card is affixed to the reverse. Presented in a solid oak frame with dark navy mat behind UV-protective glass.
CONDITION
Very Good. The image is clean with strong color saturation and no visible tears, foxing, or losses to the paper. Minor ambient toning to the paper edges is consistent with age and is fully concealed by the mat. Frame and glass are in excellent condition.
