Carved Wood Walking Cane — Flamingo Head Crook Handle, Glass Eyes, Dark Shaft
The flamingo's long curved neck doesn't just top this cane — it is the handle. Rather than a separately mounted figure, the bird's head and neck are carved in one continuous crook form, the animal's natural anatomy solving the design problem entirely. The result is painted in salmon pink with a cream and black beak and inset glass eyes with yellow-green irises — an accurate detail: real flamingos have pale yellow irises. The handle transitions into a straight dark-stained wood shaft with a square cross-section and pronounced grain, a visual contrast that grounds the pink carving above it.
CONDITION
Good. The handle retains strong form; the glass eyes and beak detail are intact. The pink painted surface shows overall scratching and scuffing across the head and upper neck consistent with age and handling. The shaft finish is largely worn through with bare grain exposed along much of its length — stable, but heavily patinated.
