Slate Tile-Top Console Table — Wrought Iron Scrolled Base, South Africa
A sofa-length console table pairing natural slate tile with a hand-worked wrought iron base, made in South Africa — a country with a well-established export tradition in exactly this material combination. The top is composed of large-format slate tiles in warm earth tones — rust, amber, ochre, and gray-green — quarried from South Africa's Northern Cape and Northwest Province regions, where the stone occurs naturally in this variegated palette. No two tiles match; that variation is inherent to the material, not a flaw. The base features cabriole-style legs with tight scroll terminals and a crossing X-stretcher, finished in matte black iron throughout.
Beyond its looks, this table is built for real use: slate resists heat, moisture, and staining without complaint, making it a strong choice for entryways, behind sofas, or as a sideboard wherever durability matters.
CONDITION Very Good. The iron base is rigid with no bent members or loose joints, and all slate tiles are intact with no cracks or missing pieces. Light surface scratches are present across the slate top. Note: this table is heavy — plan accordingly for transport and placement.
