Antique Gold Filled Cane Repousse Pommel Monogram 37”

A striking example of Gilded Age craftsmanship, this antique gentleman’s cane dates to circa 1890–1910 and features an elaborately worked gold-filled pommel handle. The multi-paneled form is richly decorated in high-relief repoussé, with intricate floral scrollwork, beaded borders, and a central monogrammed cartouche that reflects its original ownership.

Notably, the mount is marked “573” alongside a “2” and a shield device. These marks are typical of Newark and Providence makers, where numbered patterns corresponded to specific handle designs—adding an additional layer of historical and manufacturing context to the piece.

The ornate handle is mounted to a black ebonized wood shaft, a classic pairing that provided both durability and visual contrast. During the Victorian and Edwardian era, canes such as this were not merely utilitarian—they were expressions of status, taste, and identity.

The spherical pommel form, combined with deeply executed repoussé work and identifiable pattern markings, places this cane among the more desirable and collectible examples from the turn of the 20th century.

Condition:
In good antique condition, with age-appropriate wear. The gold-filled handle retains crisp, well-defined detail with light surface wear. The wood shaft shows minor scuffs consistent with use.
