Live-Edge Mesquite Hardwood Serving Board — Figured Grain, 15 lbs
Milled from figured mesquite — North America's hardest native hardwood at 2,345 on the Janka scale, nearly double red oak and harder than hickory — this live-edge slab delivers the species at full drama. Deep swirling cathedral grain, tight flame figure, and warm reddish-brown heartwood pull into sharp relief under an oil finish. Two live edges run the full length, with natural bark inclusions intact. The underside retains its golden sapwood tone and sits on four rubber feet.
Supply is the limiting factor: mesquite comes primarily from ranch clearing across the Chihuahuan Desert, not managed forestry. Milling waste is high, and figured slabs at this size and grain density are not common. At nearly 16 pounds and over 20 inches across, this piece works equally well on a charcuterie spread, a bar cart, or a woodworker's bench — and the buyer who recognizes figured mesquite knows exactly what they're looking at.
CONDITION
Good. The oiled top face carries light to moderate surface scratching across both halves, consistent with use as a cutting or serving surface. Live edge shows minor bark loss and small void inclusions along the lower edge. No cracking, warping, or structural damage.
