Polychrome & Gilt Pricket Candlesticks, Graduated Pair — Cast Resin
The pricket candlestick — spike pin, wide bobeche bowl, baluster shaft on a domed foot — is one of the oldest candle-holding forms in Western decorative arts, born on the altars of medieval churches and refined through the Italian and Iberian Baroque into some of the most visually commanding objects in ecclesiastical furnishing. This graduated pair reproduces that tradition faithfully: hand-painted polychrome panels of stylized botanicals — berries, pomegranate-like blooms, and leafwork in deep red, forest green, and ochre — set against a warm cream and burnished gold ground, the whole surface sealed under high-gloss lacquer that pulls the palette together. Sized to display as a tiered pair, exactly as they would have flanked an altar.
Sold as a matched pair of two graduated candlesticks. Felt-padded bases protect display surfaces.
CONDITION
Excellent. No damage, chips, or paint loss on either piece. The lacquered polychrome surface is crisp and fully intact across both candlesticks.
