Description

Antique French Stained Glass Window Figural Siècle Panel 70x23

Striking antique stained glass window panel, likely French and dating to the late 19th century (circa 1880–1900), showcasing exceptional hand-painted detail and refined Belle Époque design. At its center, a finely rendered oval portrait of a young woman—executed in kiln-fired enamel—offers a soft, almost painterly presence, reminiscent of classical portrait miniatures.

What truly elevates this piece is its sophisticated ornamental framework. Flowing, symmetrical scrollwork cascades down the panel in a continuous, architectural composition—painted to resemble carved wood or gilded relief. These elegant, movement-driven forms guide the eye from top to bottom, culminating in a decorative cartouche inscribed “Siècle,” a subtle nod to its French origin and period aesthetic. The effect is both structured and fluid, blending Renaissance Revival motifs with early Art Nouveau influence.

Rich amber textured glass forms the ground, bordered by deep ruby and emerald bands with small blue accents, creating a warm, luminous palette when lit. At an impressive 70 inches tall, this is a true architectural statement—ideal for installation, backlighting, or as a dramatic focal point in an interior.

A rare and highly decorative example of hand-crafted European stained glass, where painting, design, and craftsmanship come together as one unified work of art. Pieces of this scale and artistic cohesion are increasingly scarce.

Condition:
In good antique condition with age-appropriate wear. There is visible rust and oxidation to the lead came and reinforcing bars. Two glass panels are cracked (notably within green sections), along with minor surface wear and residue consistent with age. The painted details remain strong and vibrant, and the panel is structurally stable overall.
