1875 Villa Croissy Architectural Print Sulpis Revue Générale
Original 1875 hand-colored chromolithograph titled “Villa à Croissy – Île-de-France”, designed by M. Duc and engraved by J. Sulpis, from Revue Générale de l’Architecture et des Travaux Publics (Quatrième Série, Vol. 2, Plate 55), edited by César Daly.
Produced during the journal’s later continuation period (XXXVIe année, 1875), this plate reflects the evolution of French domestic architecture in the early Third Republic. The villa, located in Croissy-sur-Seine—an affluent residential area west of Paris—embodies a refined Second Empire–Picturesque style, with a complex hipped roof, decorative cresting, multiple chimneys, and an ornate veranda adorned with intricate woodwork and climbing foliage. Subtle polychrome detailing and balanced proportions highlight the influence of academic architectural training associated with Duc, a member of the Institut.
Printed by A. Salmon, Paris, this chromolithograph was issued in limited numbers to professional subscribers, making surviving examples increasingly scarce.
A sophisticated and historically significant architectural print, ideal for collectors and interior display.
