Victorian Arts & Crafts Oak Snooker Cue Stand — 6-Cue Cast Iron, Green Enamel Tray
This is the piece that completes the billiard room. Built in quartersawn oak circa 1890, with the pronounced ray-fleck figure and pierced heart crest cutout that define the Arts & Crafts period at its most confident, this freestanding cue stand was made for a room that took its snooker seriously. The cast iron horizontal rail — fitted with six individually rotating, scallop-embossed cue cradles — still turns as intended, and bears partial markings consistent with Funt's Patent, a documented Victorian billiards hardware maker. Four cast iron claw feet anchor the base with the same unapologetic weight as the rest of the piece.
The original green enamel cast iron drip tray is present and seated in the lower oak trough, its internal dividers intact — a detail that rarely survives 130 years of games room use. Nothing has been replaced.
CONDITION
Good. The quartersawn oak shows age-appropriate patina throughout; chipping is present to the wood frame, and a wood support has been added beneath the base for structural reinforcement. The cast iron cue rail and green enamel tray show chipping to both the enamel surface and iron body consistent with long use.
