Connersville Cabinet Co. Cedar Chest c.1892–1915 — Gothic Carved Panel, Walnut
A large walnut cedar chest by the Connersville Cabinet Company of Connersville, Indiana, produced between approximately 1892 and 1915 — the active dating window for this style of brass maker's plaque. Founded in 1882 and known for supplying major retailers including John Wanamaker and Marshall Field, Connersville Cabinet Company built a strong reputation for quality case goods and hope chests. This example features an elaborately carved Gothic-inspired front panel: a beaded rectangular field of quatrefoil rosettes flanked by scrolled cartouche brackets, centered above a brass keyhole escutcheon. The lid carries a turned spindle gallery with darkened baluster spindles set between scrolled end brackets and a raised central plinth. A beaded apron molding runs the full base perimeter above scrolled bracket feet.
The interior is fully lined in aromatic Eastern red cedar with brass hinges and a green fabric-trimmed lid edge. The original maker's brass plaque is present and intact, mounted to the interior side wall.
CONDITION
In good condition overall, with visible signs of use including surface scuffs and finish wear. There is veneer loss on the front and looseness to veneer on the central carved decorative element. Interior cedar lining remains intact. Keyhole present; no key included.
