Jr. & Diane Aragon Acoma-Laguna Pueblo Sgraffito Wedding Vase — Bear Motif 2003
A large double-spouted wedding vase by Wilbert "Junior" and Diane Aragon of the Acoma-Laguna Pueblo, hand-built in black-slipped clay with dense sgraffito carving that reveals the terra cotta body beneath. The dual stepped necks carry geometric motifs — stacked triangles, sawtooth ridges, and radiating line-fill — while the globular body is divided into horizontal registers of interlocking diagonal and chevron patterns with teal-accented negative spaces. The Aragons' signature airbrushed glaze creates a warm gradient across the carved terra cotta. The front centers on a large circular medallion with a carved bear figure set against a burnished golden ground, surrounded by bear paw prints scattered across the body. Signed on the base: "Jr. Diane Aragon / Laguna / Acoma, N.M. / Pueblo / © 03."
CONDITION Good. Sgraffito carving is crisp and fully intact across all decorated surfaces. Light shelf wear to the black slip on the lower body and base consistent with display use.
