Sun Face Kachina Doll — Signed W. Juan, Wood Fur Feathers Suede, Log Base
A signed Sun Face (Tawa) kachina doll by artist W. Juan, carved from wood and dressed in white fur, tan suede fringe, and natural feathers. The large circular mask is painted in the classic Tawa format — teal lower face with rectangular eyes and white chin marks, bisected upper panel in yellow and dark red with radiating sunburst strokes, and a white dot band across the horizon line. A dense halo of soft gray-brown feathers with white-tipped quills surrounds the mask, with additional feathers at the wrists. The teal-painted torso is wrapped in a white fur collar and tan suede fringe skirt, over a cream leather apron hand-painted with geometric stepped triangle and zigzag motifs in black, peach, and teal. The figure stands on a natural bark-edged log slice base. The underside is inscribed "SUNFACE / W. JUAN."
CONDITION
Good. The mask paint and feather array are intact and presentable; fur and suede fringe are secure throughout. Noticeable UV color fading to the painted apron/skirt, with softening of the peach and teal tones across the design.
