Eagle Kachina Doll — Wood, Fur, Barred Feathers, Green Suede, Log Base & Branch
An authentic Eagle (Kwahu) kachina doll carved from wood and heavily dressed in white fur, representing one of the most visually distinctive figures in the Hopi tradition. The mask features yellow button eyes, a painted red and open beak, and is encircled by a dense collar of white fur and barred brown-and-black feathers. The body is wrapped in white fur with green suede fringe at the wrists, waist, and ankles, over a black felt apron painted with white lightning motifs. The figure is mounted on a natural log cross-section base with a weathered branch rising alongside it.
The lot includes a detached branch element topped with a painted disc shield — teal ground with a bisected yellow-and-red upper panel, black symbolic markings, and a white border — ringed with barred feathers matching the figure's headdress.
CONDITION
Good. The figure presents strongly with vibrant paint on the disc shield, secure fur and feather elements, and intact suede fringe throughout. Minor paint wear is visible on the carved wrist and body sections, consistent with age and handling.
