Maria Kenarova Ceramic Wall Scroll — Seasons 4-Panel, Santa Fe NM
A four-panel S-shaped ceramic wall scroll by Maria Kenarova, a Bulgarian-born Santa Fe artist whose handmade earthenware reliefs are internationally exhibited and carried in galleries throughout the American Southwest. Each panel is formed by hand in earthenware clay, kiln-fired at 2000°F, and finished with layered acrylics — a process Kenarova has refined across her Seasons collection, which traces nature's cyclical symbolism through tree motifs and botanical forms. The scroll comprises a fan-shaped top, two rectangular mid-panels, and a pointed base, each suspended from turned wooden dowels tied with natural raffia. Motifs progress through the panels in relief: a tree of life beneath a floral medallion, a mandala sun above a rose-canopy tree, a maple leaf paired with a budding tree, and a large-rooted tree of life with a compass medallion at the pointed tip — rendered in shifting copper, verdigris, and lavender-purple tones over a burlap-impressed ground. A decorative beaded tassel finishes the bottom.
Originally purchased from Kohler Lamp & Shade.
CONDITION
Excellent. Relief work is crisp and patina is vivid across all four panels with no remarkable damage. Raffia ties and beaded tassel are fully intact.
