Rajasthani Jharokha Carved Wood 9-Pane Mirror — 63½" × 53½"
A large-scale Indian architectural mirror in the Rajasthani jharokha tradition, built around a 3×3 grid of nine rectangular panes set within a deeply hand-carved hardwood frame. The outer border carries two continuous registers of carving — an outer band of repeating lancet forms and an inner interlocking foliate chain — while the interior mullions feature a raised center spine flanked by carved channels, with mitered and continuous corner intersections throughout. The finish is three-toned: a gray-blue base coat sits in the carved recesses, a dry-brushed white layer covers the mid-surfaces, and raw warm wood shows through at the high points of the relief — a combination that gives the carving exceptional visual depth. Iron D-ring hangers are mounted at the top of the verso.
CONDITION Good. Carving detail is intact across the full surface and all nine mirror panes are clear with no visible foxing. Noticeable finish wear and a ding are present on the back of the frame; neither is visible once the piece is installed.
