Mid-Century Studio Pottery Ampulla w/ Iron Stand Fish Motif
Striking mid-20th century studio pottery ampulla (pilgrim flask) vessel, mounted on a removable iron stand, and featuring a hand-incised fish motif on both sides. The sculptural, flattened canteen form—with short neck and dual lug openings—draws inspiration from historic ampulla vessels, reinterpreted through a rustic, folk-inspired studio ceramic lens.
The surface displays a richly textured, matte finish in earthy ochre, brown, and muted green tones, with natural variation that highlights its handcrafted origin. The fish decoration, rendered in a naïve, incised style, adds symbolic and visual interest—suggestive of water, abundance, and traditional artisan motifs.
While often associated with Southwestern aesthetics, this piece aligns more broadly with mid-century studio pottery, where artists created decorative, “artifact-style” forms influenced by global and historical ceramics. The substantial iron stand, with curved supports and tubular base, is purpose-built and fully removable, enhancing both stability and display flexibility.
Due to its solid form and raised relief decoration, the vessel is also well-suited for conversion into a unique table lamp, similar to other studio pottery examples seen in high-end interiors and design markets.
A bold, sculptural statement piece—ideal for collectors of studio ceramics, Southwestern-style décor, or curated interiors seeking organic, textural impact.
Condition:
Good condition overall, rustic by design, with surface wear, patina, and natural variations throughout. The ceramic shows expected textural inconsistencies and tonal shifts; the iron stand exhibits oxidation consistent with age. Structurally solid and displays beautifully.
