Mexican Adam & Eve Tree of Life Large Terracotta Candelabra
Impressive Mexican “Árbol de la Vida” (Tree of Life) sculpture depicting the Adam and Eve narrative, hand-crafted in painted terracotta and likely originating from the Metepec tradition, circa 1970s–1980s. This large and visually complex example features a central serpent surrounded by sculpted figures, dense floral and leaf motifs, and a symmetrical branching form. Five candle holders are integrated into the design—one with a 1½" diameter opening and four with 1" diameter openings—blending decorative artistry with functional use.
The intricate hand-applied elements and rich polychrome detailing reflect skilled workshop craftsmanship characteristic of mid- to late-20th century Mexican folk art. Its scale, narrative subject, and elaborate construction make it a standout display piece for collectors of Latin American ceramics and religious folk art.
