Meilink Fire Safe UL 350-1HR — Combo Lock, Casters, Shelf, c.1978
A floor safe by Meilink Safe Company, Division of Meilink Industries, Inc., Whitehouse, Ohio — a firm founded in 1899 by Charles F. Meilink, who is credited with inventing the modern fireproof safe. Meilink operated as an independent manufacturer until acquired by FireKing International in 1990, making this a late-production example from the company's independent era. The serial number prefix "78" is consistent with a 1978 manufacture date. The tan hammered-texture steel body with cream door panel carries a UL Classification for fire resistance at 350°F interior maximum for one full hour — the standard rating for protection of paper documents, which combust at approximately 451°F. A UL Listed relocking device (No. A548421) is fitted, engaging secondary bolts automatically if the lock mechanism is tampered with. The combination dial lock with chrome surround and black lever handle is mounted on a branded Meilink escutcheon plate; the unit rides on four casters for repositioning.
The interior includes one removable and height-adjustable steel shelf supported by notched vertical tracks. The winning bidder will receive the safe combination.
CONDITION
Good. The combination lock, door mechanism, and casters are all functional. Paint is chipped and underlying metal exposed at one exterior corner, and heavy black scuff marks are present across the top surface; the interior floor shows dark staining and residue consistent with age.
