Late 19th C. Flat-Top Steamer Trunk — Embossed Steel, Oak Slats, Casters, Key
A late 19th-century flat-top steamer trunk of rectangular form, the body clad in embossed steel sheeting with an all-over foliate scrollwork ground, reinforced by alternating oak slats and black-painted iron strapping on all faces; the lid similarly constructed with decorative steel corner ornaments at each slat junction. The hardware suite comprises a central lock plate with integral lift handle, twin ornate side latches with quatrefoil escutcheons, cast steel handle mounts with leather carrying straps, and original steel casters to the base. Interior fully paper-lined in a printed geometric pattern.
The lot includes a removable two-compartment lift-out tray and the original skeleton key.
