Navajo Vegetal Dye Chart — Oak Frame UV Glass, 16 Specimens, Loom
Navajo dye charts were originated in the 1950s by Mabel Burnside Myers, a Diné weaver and herbalist from Pine Springs, Arizona, as teaching tools for weaving students. This example follows the established format: sixteen dried botanical specimens on cream wool felt, each connected by a colored yarn strand to a miniature partially woven textile at center. Labeled materials include Navajo Tea, Gamble Oak Bark, Sumac Berries, Rose Hips, Ground Lichen, Juniper Root, Sage Brush, and nine additional Southwest plant dye sources. The central weaving displays a stepped-diamond geometric pattern in cream, brown, and rust.
CONDITION
Good; specimens retain strong visual integrity and all typed labels remain legible. Minor scuffs to the oak frame; verso taped shut to seal the glazing.
